Creating a dynamic team

Your greatest asset!
One of the most common issues facing leaders of growth businesses is how to continue to effectively manage the business as it grows. Get this wrong and your business won't achieve your objectives. Get it right and it will be the most liberating thing that you ever achieve!

Many business owners find it hard to let go. When you first started up in business, you probably did many tasks yourself. You may still do so. One of the perceived advantages of this is that you can do every part of the business and you are in touch with every part so you know what is going on.

As you grow, you will feel yourself moving away from this perceived 'position of strength' and this feels uncomfortable. Many business owners continue to delve into the detail at every opportunity and this provent the business from achieving its  growth potential.

To succeed and florish, you need to give your business 'legs' of its own and build a team that can successfully deliver your objectives with or without you.

Once you have achieved this, you will feel completely liberated - a feeling that I encourage you to get to as quickly as possible.

How do you go about it though?

1. Think to the future - what will your business team look like and what types of people do you need to have in place. by considering what your business will be like in say three years time, you will start to understand how the organisation will be shaped.

2. Understand your strengths and weaknesses - build a management team that will stregthen your overall position, cover off your areas of weakness and one that can collectively work to achieve your vision for the business.

3. Implement a structured performance management process - ensure that everyone within your organisation understands the role that they play, understands what they have to deliver and how this contributes to the overall success.

4. Instil a performance culture - reward high performers and let under performers go as quickly as possible.
